Buyers Checklists

Here are some helpful checklists of what you need to

do when you buy your home:

  • Do a final inspection of the property you buy within the 7 days prior to the settlement date as per the contract you have signed
  • Make arrangements with the agent/previous home owner to collect spare keys for your new home after settlement
  • Order newspapers
  • Connect telephones and internet
  • Connect electricity and gas
  • Advise water supply department
  • Advise local council
  • Advise electoral office
  • Notify post office with new address
  • Cover new house (it is your responsibility to insure your home once you have paid the deposit)
  • Advise taxation office and insurance office/s
  • Advise doctors, dentists, baby health centre and hospitals
  • Advise bank/s and superannuation funds
  • Advise child care centre, school/s and public library
  • Notify motor registration branch of the new address for vehicle and driver license
  • Notify friends, social clubs, and relatives of your new address
  • Record new address with police department if you have a gun license
